Simmerring® BAUM RF: Efficient sealing for high rotational speeds

Freudenberg Sealing Technologies (FST) introduces the Simmerring® BAUM RF, an optimized radial shaft seal specifically developed for high-speed applications and demanding operating conditions. Within the existing BAUM portfolio, which offers a wide range of dimensions and sealing solutions, this variant represents a targeted enhancement.

The BAUM RF (Reduced Friction) features a modified spring with reduced radial force. This significantly lowers friction at the sealing lip, resulting in reduced heat generation in both the elastomer and the lubricant. This effect is particularly relevant at high circumferential shaft speeds. The result is improved energy efficiency and a significantly extended service life.

Reduced friction and performance impact

A key advantage of the BAUM RF is the reduction in friction torque. Under FST test conditions, with a shaft diameter of 120 mm, material 75 FKM 585 and mineral oil, a reduction of approximately 25% is achieved compared to the standard BAUM seal.

This lower friction directly results in reduced temperature levels in the sealing area. The relationship between friction, temperature and service life is critical: a temperature reduction of just 10°C in the sealing gap can double the service life of the seal. This makes the BAUM RF particularly suitable for applications where reliability and maintenance intervals are essential.

Application areas and positioning within the BAUM portfolio

The BAUM RF is designed for applications involving high speeds and limited lubrication. Within the broader FST portfolio, it is positioned as an efficient solution where reduced friction and extended service life are required.

However, for applications with increased shaft runout, the standard BAUM seal remains the recommended choice, as it provides the necessary sealing force. The classification of different sealing variants, including BAUM, BAUM RF, BAUMSL and MSS1, illustrates their positioning in terms of temperature resistance, shaft speed and service life.

Technical positioning and material variants

The BAUM RF is available in different material options, including FKM (75 FKM 585) and NBR (72 NBR 902). These variants allow the seal to be adapted to specific requirements regarding temperature resistance, media compatibility and mechanical load.

Within the classification overview, the BAUM RF is clearly positioned as a solution focused on efficiency and reduced load, while maintaining the reliability of a proven design. For end users, this means a targeted choice: maximum efficiency at high speeds without compromising performance under the right operating conditions.
