Hardness Comparator

At Techniparts, we’ve designed this coffee and tea coaster with a purpose: to give you hands-on insight into Shore hardness in sealing technologies. By pressing the rubber tabs, you can feel the differences in Shore hardness for yourself.

What is Shore A?

Shore A is a scale used to measure the hardness of rubber and other soft polymers according to DIN 53505. This scale indicates a material's resistance to indentation, measured using a durometer. The scale ranges from 0 to 100, where lower values represent softer, more flexible materials, and higher values indicate harder, less flexible ones.

For example:

  • A Shore A hardness of 40 represents soft rubber, similar to a rubber band.
  • A Shore A hardness of 90 describes a much harder material, comparable to the tread of a car tire.

The Shore A scale is widely used in industrial and commercial applications for rubber seals to specify material properties. By pressing the rubber tabs on this coaster, you can experience the difference in Shore hardness firsthand!
