The AE40 is a single-acting wiper for hydraulic and pneumatic applications. The profile removes dirt and other contaminants from the piston rod as it retracts into the cylinder. In this way, the wiper helps prevent contamination from the outside from entering the installation space.
The AE40 profile has a protruding wiper lip and integrated support segments. The complete profile is made of NBR and does not contain a metal angle ring. According to the datasheet, the wiper is particularly suitable for high stroke speeds and moderately demanding applications in general industry.
The AE40 wiper is made of NBR. This material forms both the functional wiper lip and the support segments of the profile. The protruding wiper lip contacts the piston rod during the retraction movement and removes any dirt present.
The support segments prevent the wiper from twisting in the installation space. As a result, no metal angle ring is present. This profile design allows installation in an axially semi-closed installation space.
As the piston rod retracts into the hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder, the lip of the AE40 wipes contaminants from the rod surface. The wiper is single acting and performs this function during the retraction movement.
The integrated support segments stabilise the profile in the installation space and prevent twisting. No pressure relief hole is required for the AE40. According to the datasheet, the profile offers good wiping properties against dirt and is particularly suitable for high stroke speeds.
The AE40 wiper can be used in hydraulic and pneumatic systems. The profile has a broad application spectrum and is intended for moderately demanding applications in general industry.
The reliable profile design is combined with a good price-performance ratio. The AE40 is manufactured by certified external suppliers. During selection, it must be verified that the NBR version, protruding wiper lip and axially semi-closed installation space are suitable for the application.
The protruding wiper lip and integrated support segments are the defining features of the AE40. The lip removes contaminants as the piston rod retracts. The support segments keep the profile stable and prevent the wiper from twisting in the groove.
This design provides the required stability without a metal angle ring. The functional profile construction therefore consists entirely of NBR. The AE40 is installed in an axially semi-closed installation space.
The AE40 is specified exclusively with NBR as its material. During selection, the temperature range, sliding speed and medium with which the wiper comes into contact must be assessed together. The profile has a temperature range of -30 to +100 °C and a sliding speed of up to 1 m/s.
The AE40 is resistant to hydraulic oils according to DIN 51524 parts 1 to 3, lubricating oils and lubricating greases based on mineral oils. The profile can also be used with the flame-retardant hydraulic fluids HFA, HFB and HFC according to VCMA 24317.
The permissible operating temperature for the AE40 wiper is between -30 and +100 °C. The maximum sliding speed is 1 m/s. These figures are maximum limits and, according to the datasheet, may not all be reached at the same time.
The temperature and sliding speed must therefore not be assessed separately from the medium and other operating conditions. The dimensions, installation-space design and surfaces of the piston rod and groove must also be suitable for the profile.
Current information about approvals and certificates must be checked in the material data sheet applicable to the respective material. This information depends on the specific compound and, according to the datasheet, cannot be listed exhaustively in the general product information.
The cylinder housing and piston rod or piston must be chamfered to prevent damage during installation. The length and angle of these installation chamfers must correspond to the associated installation-space drawing.
The surface roughness of the piston rod must comply with the specifications of the seal used. The groove flanks for the AE40 may have a maximum surface roughness of Ra 4 µm. A maximum surface roughness of Ra 2.5 µm applies to the groove base.
The AE40 is installed in an axially semi-closed installation space. Sharp edges must be deburred beforehand. Seamless chamfers and radii must also be provided so that the NBR profile is not damaged during installation.
Carefully clean the installation space before inserting the wiper. Dust, dirt, metal chips and other contaminants must be completely removed. Grease the mounting surfaces and the wiper before installing the profile.
The AE40 must be stored at a temperature below 25 °C. During storage, the wiper must not be exposed to direct heat sources or direct sunlight. Condensation in the storage room must also be prevented.
The product must also be protected against ozone and ionising radiation. The storage recommendations in the datasheet are based on the revision of ISO 2230 dated 16 September 1992.
When selecting an AE40 wiper, first check the required dimensions and the geometry of the axially semi-closed installation space. Then assess whether NBR is suitable for the medium and whether the temperature range of -30 to +100 °C and maximum sliding speed of 1 m/s match the operating conditions.
Also consider the installation chamfers, the surface roughness of the groove flanks and groove base, and the specifications for the rod surface. If a particular approval or certification is required, it must be checked separately for the selected compound.
