The AE42 is a single-acting wiper for mobile hydraulics. The profile removes dirt and other contaminants from the piston rod as it retracts into the cylinder. In this way, the wiper helps prevent contamination from the outside from entering the installation space.
The AE42 profile has a protruding wiper lip, integrated support segments and ribs on the inner diameter. The complete profile is made of TPU and does not contain a metal angle ring. According to the datasheet, the wiper is particularly suitable for applications involving heavy contamination.
The AE42 wiper is made of TPU. This material forms the functional wiper lip as well as the support segments and ribs of the profile. The protruding wiper lip contacts the piston rod during the retraction movement and removes any dirt present.
The support segments prevent the wiper from twisting in the installation space. Ribs on the inner diameter support a functionally correct fit of the profile. No metal angle ring is present. The AE42 is installed in an axially semi-closed installation space.
As the piston rod retracts into the hydraulic cylinder, the lip of the AE42 wipes contaminants from the rod surface. The wiper is single acting and performs this function during the retraction movement.
The support segments stabilise the profile in the installation space and prevent twisting. The ribs on the inner diameter support the correct fit. No pressure relief hole is required for the AE42. According to the datasheet, the profile offers good wiping properties against dirt, high wear resistance and a long service life.
The AE42 is intended for mobile hydraulics and is particularly suitable for applications involving heavy contamination. The profile also has a broad application spectrum for moderately demanding applications in general industry.
The reliable design is combined with a good price-performance ratio. The AE42 is manufactured by certified external suppliers. During selection, it must be verified that the TPU profile, protruding wiper lip and axially semi-closed installation space are suitable for the application.
The protruding wiper lip, support segments and ribs on the inner diameter jointly determine the functional design of the AE42. The wiper lip removes contaminants as the piston rod retracts. The support segments prevent the profile from twisting in the groove.
The ribs on the inner diameter support a functionally correct fit. This design provides the required stability without a metal angle ring. In combination with the TPU material, this results in high wear resistance and a long service life according to the datasheet.
The AE42 is specified exclusively with TPU as its material. During selection, the temperature range, sliding speed and medium with which the wiper comes into contact must be assessed together. The profile has a temperature range of -30 to +100 °C and a sliding speed of up to 2 m/s.
The AE42 is resistant to hydraulic oils according to DIN 51524 parts 1 to 3, lubricating oils and lubricating greases based on mineral oils. The profile can also be used with the flame-retardant hydraulic fluids HFA, HFB and HFC according to VCMA 24317.
The permissible operating temperature for the AE42 wiper is between -30 and +100 °C. The maximum sliding speed is 2 m/s. These figures are maximum limits and, according to the datasheet, may not all be reached at the same time.
The temperature and sliding speed must therefore not be assessed separately from the medium and other operating conditions. The dimensions, installation-space design and surfaces of the piston rod and groove must also be suitable for the profile.
Current information about approvals and certificates must be checked in the material data sheet applicable to the respective material. This information depends on the specific compound and, according to the datasheet, cannot be listed exhaustively in the general product information.
The cylinder housing and piston rod or piston must be chamfered to prevent damage during installation. The surface roughness of the piston rod must comply with the specifications of the seal used.
The groove flanks for the AE42 may have a maximum surface roughness of Ra 4 µm. A maximum surface roughness of Ra 2.5 µm applies to the groove base. The installation space must be suitable for fitting the profile in an axially semi-closed groove.
The AE42 is installed in an axially semi-closed installation space. Sharp edges must be deburred beforehand. Seamless chamfers and radii must also be provided so that the TPU profile is not damaged during installation.
Carefully clean the installation space before inserting the wiper. Dust, dirt, metal chips and other contaminants must be completely removed. Grease the mounting surfaces and the wiper before installing the profile.
The AE42 must be stored at a temperature below 25 °C. During storage, the wiper must not be exposed to direct heat sources or direct sunlight. Condensation in the storage room must also be prevented.
The product must also be protected against ozone and ionising radiation. The storage recommendations in the datasheet are based on the revision of ISO 2230 dated 16 September 1992.
When selecting an AE42 wiper, first check the required dimensions and the geometry of the axially semi-closed installation space. Then assess whether TPU is suitable for the medium and whether the temperature range of -30 to +100 °C and maximum sliding speed of 2 m/s match the operating conditions.
Also consider the contamination present, the protruding wiper lip, the support segments and the ribs on the inner diameter. The installation chamfers and surface roughness of the groove flanks, groove base and piston rod must also be checked. If an approval or certification is required, it must be established separately for the selected compound.
