The AM45 is a single-acting wiper for hydraulic applications. The profile is installed around the moving piston rod and removes dirt and other contaminants from the rod surface during the retraction movement.
The wiping action is provided by a protruding NBR wiper lip. The vulcanised metal angle ring supports the fit of the profile in the installation space.
The AM45 consists of an NBR wiping section and a vulcanised metal angle ring. The metal reinforcement is made of unalloyed steel according to DIN EN 10139, formerly DIN 1624.
The protruding wiper lip contacts the piston rod. The metal angle ring ensures a functional fit in the installation space and prevents the wiper from twisting during operation.
The wiper lip protrudes from the profile and removes contaminants from the piston rod as it moves into the cylinder. According to the data sheet, the AM45 offers good wiping properties against dirt.
For correct operation, the wiper lip must be combined with a piston rod that has a suitable surface quality. The required rod surface roughness is determined by the specifications of the seal used.
The metal angle ring is vulcanised into the profile. This design supports the fit of the AM45 in the installation space and prevents the profile from twisting.
The metal stiffening ring offers only a small attack surface for corrosive media. During selection, the medium and the conditions surrounding the metal component must nevertheless be considered together.
According to the data sheet, encasing the stiffening ring gives the AM45 a higher sealing effect on the outer diameter. This characteristic supports contact between the profile and the installation space.
The metal stiffening ring also ensures a functional fit. The groove dimensions and installation chamfers must therefore correspond to the relevant installation drawing.
According to the data sheet, the AM45 does not require a pressure relief hole. This simplifies the design of the installation space.
The specified dimensions, chamfers and surface roughness values must still be checked during design and installation. These conditions remain decisive for correct positioning of the profile.
The AM45 is particularly suitable for applications with high stroke speeds. The maximum permissible sliding speed is 1 m/s.
This maximum speed must be assessed in combination with the temperature, medium, piston rod surface quality and other conditions within the application.
The AM45 wiper is intended for hydraulic applications. The profile has a broad application spectrum and is described as a reliable design for moderately demanding applications in general industry.
The stated advantages include good wiping properties against dirt, a higher sealing effect on the outer diameter, a functional fit and suitability for high stroke speeds. The AM45 also offers a good price-performance ratio and is manufactured by certified external suppliers.
The wiper lip of the AM45 is made of NBR. The vulcanised metal angle ring consists of unalloyed steel according to DIN EN 10139, formerly DIN 1624.
The NBR section wipes the piston rod and encases the stiffening ring. The metal angle ring supports the functional fit and prevents the profile from twisting.
The AM45 is suitable for hydraulic oils in accordance with DIN 51524 parts 1-3 and for lubricating oils. The profile can also be used with mineral oil-based lubricating greases.
The flame-retardant hydraulic fluids HFA, HFB and HFC according to VCMA 24317 are also specified. During selection, verify that the applied medium is suitable for the NBR and metal angle ring.
The AM45 has an operating temperature range from -30 to +100 °C. The maximum sliding speed is 1 m/s.
These operating limits are maximum values and may not all be reached simultaneously. Suitability should therefore be assessed using the complete combination of temperature, sliding speed, medium, surface quality and installation conditions.
Consult the valid material data sheet for current information about approvals and certificates. This information depends on the specific compound and therefore cannot be listed exhaustively for every version.
The cylinder housing and piston rod must be provided with chamfers to prevent damage to the wiper. The length and angle of these installation chamfers must correspond to the installation-space drawing.
The piston rod surface roughness must correspond to the specifications of the seal used. The groove flanks require a surface roughness of Ra ≤ 4 µm. The groove base must have a surface roughness of Ra ≤ 2.5 µm.
Before installation, verify that the installation-space dimensions and installation chamfers correspond to the installation drawing. The vulcanised metal angle ring must be positioned correctly in the intended installation space.
Deburr sharp edges and provide smooth chamfers and radii. Clean the installation space carefully before installation and remove dust, dirt, metal chips and other contaminants.
Store the AM45 at a temperature below 25 °C. Avoid direct sources of heat, direct sunlight and condensation in the storage area.
The wiper must not be exposed to ozone or ionising radiation. The storage recommendations are based on the revision of ISO 2230 dated 16 September 1992.
First check the required piston rod and installation-space dimensions. Then assess whether the protruding wiper lip and vulcanised metal angle ring are suitable for the design and expected stroke speed.
Also check the temperature range from -30 to +100 °C and the maximum sliding speed of 1 m/s. Assess the medium, piston rod surface quality, groove roughness and any compound-dependent approvals.
