PTFE
PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) consists of a strong bond between carbon and fluorine atoms, making it incapable of reacting with other materials. Its chemical resistance is nearly universal. It withstands many different polar and non-polar media, such as gasoline, acids, alcohols, water, alkalis, and brake fluids. PTFE only reaches its limits with strong reducing or oxidizing agents and under high-energy radiation. This high-performance plastic offers an extremely wide temperature range from -200 °C to +260 °C. It is minimally elastic and tends to creep, especially at elevated temperatures, but provides high hardness. Another advantage is the absence of the stick-slip effect; PTFE slides on PTFE almost as smoothly as wet ice on wet ice. To further enhance the material's properties, it can be combined with various additives, such as glass fiber, carbon, or bronze.
