The AD51 is a double-acting wiper for piston rods with high stroke speeds. The protruding wiper lip removes dirt and other contaminants from the piston rod as it retracts into the cylinder. In this way, the profile helps prevent contamination from the outside from entering the installation space.
A second lip reduces the residual oil film on the surface of the piston rod. The AD51 therefore combines the removal of dirt with the reduction of residual oil. The profile is made of NBR, does not contain a metal angle ring and has an additional diameter step on the outer seat.
The AD51 is made of NBR and has a protruding wiper lip with a second lip on the opposite side of the profile. The outer wiper lip removes contaminants during the retraction movement of the piston rod. The second lip reduces the residual oil film on the rod surface.
No metal angle ring is present. An additional diameter step is located on the outer seat of the profile and, according to the datasheet, provides a stronger sealing and wiping effect. The AD51 is installed in an axially semi-closed installation space.
As the piston rod retracts, the protruding wiper lip removes dirt from the rod surface. The second lip is intended to reduce the residual oil film. This combination is why the AD51 is described in the datasheet as a double-acting wiper.
A pressure relief hole is recommended for returning the residual oil. This recommendation must be considered in the design of the installation space. According to the datasheet, the AD51 provides good wiping properties against dirt and is particularly suitable for high stroke speeds.
The AD51 has an additional diameter step on the outer seat of the profile. According to the datasheet, this diameter step produces a stronger sealing and wiping effect. The diameter step is therefore a defining feature of the AD51 design.
This design works together with the two functional lips. The protruding lip removes contaminants during the retraction movement, while the second lip reduces the residual oil film. The profile does not contain a separate metal angle ring.
The AD51 is particularly suitable for piston rods with high stroke speeds. The datasheet also describes the profile as a reliable design with a broad application spectrum for moderately demanding applications in general industry.
The profile design is combined with a good price-performance ratio. The AD51 is manufactured by certified external suppliers. During selection, the double-lip function, additional diameter step and axially semi-closed installation space must be matched to the application.
The AD51 is specified exclusively with NBR as its material. During selection, the temperature range, sliding speed and medium with which the profile comes into contact must be assessed together. The AD51 has a temperature range of -30 to +100 °C and a sliding speed of up to 1 m/s.
The AD51 is resistant to hydraulic oils according to DIN 51524 parts 1 to 3, lubricating oils and lubricating greases based on mineral oils. The profile can also be used with the flame-retardant hydraulic fluids HFA, HFB and HFC according to VCMA 24317.
The permissible operating temperature for the AD51 is between -30 and +100 °C. The maximum sliding speed is 1 m/s. These figures are maximum limits and, according to the datasheet, may not all be reached at the same time.
The temperature and sliding speed must therefore not be assessed separately from the medium and other operating conditions. The dimensions, axially semi-closed installation space and surfaces of the piston rod and groove must also be suitable for the profile.
Current information about approvals and certificates must be checked in the material data sheet applicable to the respective material. This information depends on the specific compound and, according to the datasheet, cannot be listed exhaustively in the general product information.
The cylinder housing and piston rod or piston must be chamfered to prevent damage during installation. The length and angle of these installation chamfers must correspond to the associated installation-space drawing.
The surface roughness of the piston rod must comply with the specifications of the seal used. The groove flanks for the AD51 may have a maximum surface roughness of Ra 4 µm. A maximum surface roughness of Ra 2.5 µm applies to the groove base.
The AD51 is installed in an axially semi-closed installation space. Sharp edges must be deburred beforehand. Seamless chamfers and radii must also be provided so that the NBR profile is not damaged during installation.
Carefully clean the installation space before inserting the wiper. Dust, dirt, metal chips and other contaminants must be completely removed. Grease the mounting surfaces and the wiper before installing the profile.
The AD51 must be stored at a temperature below 25 °C. During storage, the wiper must not be exposed to direct heat sources or direct sunlight. Condensation in the storage room must also be prevented.
The product must also be protected against ozone and ionising radiation. The storage recommendations in the datasheet are based on the revision of ISO 2230 dated 16 September 1992.
When selecting an AD51, first check the required dimensions and the geometry of the axially semi-closed installation space. Then assess whether NBR is suitable for the medium and whether the temperature range of -30 to +100 °C and maximum sliding speed of 1 m/s match the operating conditions.
Also consider the stroke speed, outer wiping lip, second lip for reducing the residual oil film, additional diameter step and recommended pressure relief hole for returning residual oil. The installation chamfers and surface roughness of the groove flanks, groove base and piston rod must also be checked. If an approval or certification is required, it must be established separately for the selected compound.
