The KPOR30 is a double-acting seal for sealing pistons in mobile and stationary hydraulic applications. The profile is designed for pressure loads from both sides.
The piston seal has a symmetrical construction and a tight fit on the inside diameter. The combination of the PTFE base element and NBR O-ring forms the complete sealing construction.
The base element of the KPOR30 is made from bronze-filled PTFE. The O-ring that functions as the sealing and preloading element is made from NBR.
Pressure compensation grooves are located on the sealing surface. The profile also has lateral pressure-relief notches that support rapid changes in pressure and direction of movement.
The KPOR30 is a double-acting piston seal and can therefore be subjected to pressure from both sides. This characteristic makes the profile suitable for hydraulic applications in which the pressure direction can alternate during operation.
The O-ring provides the preload for the PTFE base element. The symmetrical construction enables the seal to function in both pressure directions.
The pressure compensation grooves on the sealing surface enable rapid pressure changes. According to the data sheet, these grooves also prevent drag pressure from building up.
The lateral pressure-relief notches support rapid changes in pressure and direction of movement. These features form a functional part of the KPOR30 profile.
According to the data sheet, the KPOR30 provides low friction, including at low speeds. The seal also has no stick-slip effect.
The profile has high wear resistance and is suitable for dry running and deficient lubrication. Suitability under these conditions must be assessed in combination with the other application limits.
The KPOR30 hydraulic piston seal is intended for mobile and stationary hydraulics. Its reliable design has a broad application spectrum and is suitable for moderately demanding applications in general industry.
The profile tolerates higher surface roughness at the groove base and is suitable for high-temperature applications. Other stated advantages include low friction, high wear resistance, rapid changes in pressure and direction, and high extrusion reliability.
According to the data sheet, the KPOR30 offers a good price-performance ratio and is manufactured by certified external suppliers.
The base element of the KPOR30 is made from bronze-filled PTFE. The O-ring for sealing and preloading is made from NBR.
During selection, both materials must be assessed in combination with the medium, temperature, pressure, sliding speed, lubrication conditions and available installation space.
The KPOR30 is suitable for hydraulic oils according to DIN 51524 part 1-3 and for lubricating oils. The piston seal can also be used with lubricating greases based on mineral oils.
The specified media also include the flame-retardant hydraulic fluids HFA, HFB and HFC according to VCMA 24317. When selecting the seal, verify that the medium is suitable for both the PTFE base element and the NBR O-ring.
The KPOR30 hydraulic piston seal has a temperature range of -30 to +100 °C. Its maximum sliding speed is 15 m/s and the maximum permitted pressure is 40 MPa.
These application limits are maximum values and may not all be reached at the same time. The suitability of the seal must therefore be assessed using the complete combination of temperature, pressure, sliding speed, medium, lubrication and installation conditions.
For current information about approvals and certificates, consult the material data sheet valid for the respective material. This information depends on the specific compound and cannot be listed exhaustively in the product data sheet.
The cylinder housing and piston must be chamfered to prevent damage to the seal. The length and angle of these installation chamfers must correspond to the installation-space drawing.
The surface roughness of the groove flanks must be Ra ≤ 3 µm. The groove base must have a surface roughness of Ra ≤ 1,8 µm. A surface roughness of Ra ≤ 0,3 µm applies to the mating surface.
An axially accessible installation space is required for small diameters. Installation in semi-open or closed installation spaces is possible within a limited dimensional range.
Deburr sharp edges and provide them with seamless chamfers and radii. Carefully clean the installation space before assembly and remove dust, dirt, metal chips and other contaminants. Use a mounting sleeve if necessary to protect the seal.
When installing the seal in a closed installation space, heat the PTFE component in advance. The seal can then be formed into a kidney shape for quick and easy installation.
Grease the piston seal before fitting the cylinder. Do not roll the O-ring over the mounting surfaces or twist it when snapping it into the groove. The seal must not be kinked and must be calibrated after assembly.
The KPOR30 must be stored at a temperature below 25 °C. Avoid direct heat sources, direct sunlight and condensation in the storage room. Do not expose the seal to ozone or ionizing radiation.
The storage recommendations are based on the revision of ISO 2230 dated 16.09.1992. Observe all specified environmental conditions during storage.
When selecting a KPOR30 hydraulic piston seal, first check the required dimensions, available installation space and double-acting pressure load. Also verify that the pressure compensation grooves and pressure-relief notches are suitable for the required changes in pressure and direction.
Then assess the temperature range of -30 to +100 °C, maximum sliding speed of 15 m/s and maximum pressure of 40 MPa. These values may not all be reached at the same time. Check the medium, lubrication conditions, surface requirements, installation conditions and any compound-dependent approvals as well.
