The SNI35 is an asymmetrical U-ring specifically designed to seal moving piston rods. The seal is installed around the piston rod and prevents hydraulic fluid from escaping along the rod.
The profile is single acting and intended for one-sided pressure load. Its installation direction must therefore correspond to the side from which the hydraulic pressure is applied.
The SNI35 has an asymmetrical profile with a tight fit on the outer diameter. The seal also features an additional support and sealing edge.
This profile design supports static and dynamic sealing around the piston rod. The profile is made of TPU and offers high wear resistance.
The SNI35 is a single-acting rod seal. This means that the profile is designed to seal hydraulic pressure coming from one direction.
During installation, the sealing side must face the pressure side. Correct orientation is necessary to achieve the intended sealing performance.
The additional support and sealing edge protects the sealing area against the ingress of dirt. This provides extra protection at the point where the piston rod moves into and out of the cylinder.
The support and sealing edge is an integrated part of the asymmetrical profile. Its function should be combined with a clean piston rod and a suitable surface finish.
As hydraulic pressure increases, the SNI35 profile is pressed more firmly against the relevant sealing surfaces. The sealing effect therefore increases as pressure builds up.
This pressure-dependent behaviour supports the use of the SNI35 as a rod seal in hydraulic systems with one-sided pressure load.
The SNI35 can be used as a single seal around the piston rod. The profile combines its primary sealing function with the protection provided by the additional support and sealing edge.
During selection, verify that this profile design is suitable for the pressure direction, installation space and operating conditions of the cylinder.
The SNI35 is intended for mobile hydraulics and construction machinery. The profile has a broad application spectrum and is designed for moderately demanding applications in general industry.
Its advantages include good static and dynamic sealing performance, high wear resistance and simple snap-on installation using a mounting tool. The SNI35 also offers a good price-performance ratio and is manufactured by certified external suppliers.
The SNI35 is made of TPU. This material supports the profile’s high wear resistance and its static and dynamic sealing performance.
When assessing the material, temperature, pressure, sliding speed and the applied medium must be considered together. Any compound-dependent approvals must also be considered during selection.
The SNI35 is suitable for hydraulic oils in accordance with DIN 51524 parts 1-3 and for lubricating oils. The seal can also be used with mineral oil-based lubricating greases.
The flame-retardant hydraulic fluids HFA, HFB and HFC according to VCMA 24317 are also specified. Verify that the applied medium falls within the stated compatibility of the material.
The SNI35 has an operating temperature range from -30 to +100 °C. The maximum sliding speed is 0.5 m/s and the maximum permissible pressure is 40 MPa.
These figures are maximum operating limits and may not all be reached simultaneously. Suitability should therefore be assessed using the complete combination of temperature, pressure, sliding speed, medium and installation conditions.
Consult the valid material data sheet for current information about approvals and certificates. This information depends on the specific compound and therefore cannot be listed exhaustively for every version.
The cylinder housing and piston rod must be provided with chamfers to prevent damage to the rod seal. The length and angle of these installation chamfers must correspond to the installation-space drawing.
The groove flanks require a surface roughness of Ra ≤ 3 µm. The groove base must have a surface roughness of Ra ≤ 1.8 µm. The mating surface of the piston rod requires a surface roughness of Ra ≤ 0.4 µm.
For diameters up to 25 mm, the SNI35 must be installed in an axially open installation space. For diameters above 25 mm, the seal can be installed in a closed, cut groove.
Deburr sharp edges and provide smooth chamfers and radii. Clean the installation space carefully and remove dust, dirt, metal chips and other contaminants.
Do not pull the seal over sharp edges, threaded ends or recesses such as feather key grooves. Use a mounting sleeve where necessary to protect the profile during installation. Oil or grease the piston rod before installation.
Store the SNI35 at a temperature below 25 °C. Avoid direct sources of heat, direct sunlight and condensation in the storage area.
The seal must not be exposed to ozone or ionising radiation. The storage recommendations are based on the revision of ISO 2230 dated 16 September 1992.
First check the required piston rod and groove dimensions. Then align the installation direction with the one-sided pressure load and use the diameter to determine whether an axially open or closed, cut groove is required.
Also assess the temperature range from -30 to +100 °C, the maximum sliding speed of 0.5 m/s and the maximum pressure of 40 MPa. Check the medium, surface requirements, installation conditions and any compound-dependent approvals.
