O-rings: Seals for static and dynamic applications in various industries

O-rings are a classic in the sealing world and can be used in many different products. In most cases, the highly reliable sealing o-rings are used for static sealing of stationary machine parts against liquids and gases, as required in water valves, air conditioning systems, vehicle engines and dental drills. However, O-rings are also ideal as dynamic sealing elements, also for piston or rod seals in hydraulics.

 

Versatile O-rings: Materials and properties tailored to various applications

O-rings come in different materials, depending on the application of the o-ring, it must be resistant to ozone, swelling or high temperatures, for example. Other requirements of o-rings are, for example, that they can withstand chemicals, have pressure resistance or can withstand extremely low and extremely high temperatures. Freudenberg uses a wide variety of materials to ensure that the o-rings meet the needs of all different applications. For example, FEP/PFA coated o-rings combine the excellent chemical resistance of PTFE with the elastic behavior of an elastomer. These o-rings are used when the chemical resistance of a PTFE elastomeric o-ring is insufficient because the seal must also have elastic properties.           

 

Optimized O-rings for different applications with increased service life

Freudenberg O-rings have a long service life. Depending on the application, Freudenberg offers o-rings coated with suitable powders, special greases, emulsions or varnishes. As a result, this all-round product can be optimized for the respective use. This ensures that the wear of the o-ring is reduced and has a significantly longer life. Depending on the application of the o-ring, an o-ring must be resistant to ozone, swelling and high temperatures. Other requirements of o-rings are, for example, that they can withstand chemicals, have pressure resistance or can withstand extremely low and extremely high temperatures.
