How does a Cassette Seal work and what are its properties?

Cassette Seals are used in rotating applications. The cassette seal consists of a running tube that is statically attached to a shaft and an oil seal that dynamically seals on the running tube. The cassette seal is one piece and uses radial and axial sealing lips, the primary sealing lip of which is supported by a spring. Cassette seals are very rigid robust sealing systems and are used in harsh and polluted environments.
