A Speedi Sleeve, often referred to as a shaft repair sleeve, is a thin stainless steel sleeve used to repair worn or damaged shafts. This solution provides a new, smooth running surface over the existing shaft, eliminating the need for a full replacement. The sleeve has a precise fit and a special finish that minimizes friction.
Each Speedi Sleeve comes with an installation tool, also known as a driving cap or fitting tool, ensuring quick and easy installation. The sleeve's wall thickness is extremely thin (approximately 0.28mm), allowing the original seal dimensions to remain unchanged.
A damaged or worn shaft can cause serious issues, such as leaks or premature seal wear. This often occurs when contamination and friction damage the shaft’s running surface, preventing the seals from maintaining a proper seal. As a result, this can lead to lubricant loss or the intrusion of contaminants, which can be harmful to machines and systems.
A Speedi Sleeve provides a quick and simple solution by creating a new, wear-resistant running surface. Its smooth finish minimizes friction, improving seal performance. This helps prevent leaks and extends the lifespan of both the seal and the shaft. Additionally, a Speedi Sleeve is a cost-effective solution, eliminating the need for extensive repairs or shaft replacement.
A Speedi Sleeve is easy to install on an existing shaft. However, careful handling during installation is essential to achieve optimal results.Step 1: Preparation
Thoroughly clean the shaft and remove any rough spots or burrs using fine sandpaper. Irregularities can cause leaks due to the thin wall of the sleeve.
Step 2: Measuring the Shaft
Once the shaft is clean and any rough spots have been removed, measure the shaft diameter. Be sure to measure an unworn section to obtain the correct size. Then, select the appropriate Speedi Sleeve based on the shaft diameter. A repair sleeve that is too small or too large will not function properly. 
Step 3: Installing the Sleeve
Carefully slide the sleeve over the shaft and place the installation tool (driving cap) on top. Tap it evenly to secure the sleeve in place. It is crucial to ensure that the sleeve is positioned straight and does not become misaligned. 
Step 4: Finishing
In some applications, the flange, also known as the installation flange, may be obstructive. If necessary, it can be removed by carefully making a notch in the sleeve and then cutting it off.
When installing a Speedi Sleeve, keep the following points in mind. Ignoring these tips may reduce the effectiveness or lifespan of the sleeve.
Do Not Heat the Sleeve
Many people assume that heating the sleeve will make installation easier. However, high temperatures can deform the thin material, compromising the fit and effectiveness of the sleeve.
Ensure a Precise Fit
The Speedi Sleeve must fit as precisely as possible on the shaft. If the sleeve is too loose, it may slip or detach. Always measure the shaft diameter accurately on an unworn section to ensure a proper fit.
Inspect the Shaft and Seal
Carefully check the shaft for dirt and wear before installing the sleeve. Contaminants and rough spots can damage the repair sleeve during installation. Additionally, inspect the seal to ensure it is in good condition and replace it if necessary.
Use a Threadlocker (Such as Loctite 271)
Applying a threadlocker can help prevent the sleeve from loosening due to vibrations and stress. Using a product like Loctite 271 during installation ensures that the Speedi Sleeve stays securely in place.
