The ADM55 is a double-acting wiper for mobile hydraulics. The protruding wiper lip removes dirt and other contaminants from the piston rod as it retracts into the cylinder. In this way, the profile helps prevent contamination from the outside from entering the installation space.
A second, slightly rounded sealing edge reduces the residual oil film on the surface of the piston rod. The ADM55 therefore combines the removal of dirt with the reduction of residual oil. The profile is particularly suitable for applications involving heavy contamination.
The sealing material of the ADM55 is TPU. This material forms the protruding wiper lip and the slightly rounded sealing edge. The wiper lip removes contaminants during the retraction movement, while the second edge reduces the residual oil film.
The TPU profile has a metal angle ring made of unalloyed steel according to DIN EN 10139, formerly DIN 1624. This angle ring ensures a good fit in the installation space and prevents the wiper from twisting during operation.
As the piston rod retracts, the protruding wiper lip removes dirt from the rod surface. The second, slightly rounded edge is intended to reduce the residual oil film. This combination is why the ADM55 is described in the datasheet as a double-acting wiper.
A pressure relief hole is recommended for returning the residual oil. The metal angle ring stabilises the profile and prevents twisting in the installation space. According to the datasheet, the ADM55 offers good wiping properties, high wear resistance and a long service life.
The ADM55 is intended for mobile hydraulics and is particularly suitable for applications involving heavy contamination. The profile also has a broad application spectrum for moderately demanding applications in general industry.
The reliable design is combined with a good price-performance ratio. The ADM55 is manufactured by certified external suppliers. During selection, it must be verified that the double-lip function, metal angle ring and axially open installation space are suitable for the application.
The metal angle ring is a defining feature of the ADM55. The reinforcement is made of unalloyed steel according to DIN EN 10139, formerly DIN 1624. The angle ring supports a good fit of the profile in the installation space.
The metal reinforcement also prevents the wiper from twisting during movement of the piston rod. The stable profile design is installed in an axially open groove. According to the datasheet, this installation space is easy to manufacture.
The sealing and wiping sections of the ADM55 are made of TPU. During selection, the temperature range, sliding speed and medium with which the profile comes into contact must be assessed together. The ADM55 has a temperature range of -30 to +100 °C and a sliding speed of up to 1 m/s.
The ADM55 is resistant to hydraulic oils according to DIN 51524 parts 1 to 3, lubricating oils and lubricating greases based on mineral oils. The profile can also be used with the flame-retardant hydraulic fluids HFA, HFB and HFC according to VCMA 24317.
The permissible operating temperature for the ADM55 is between -30 and +100 °C. The maximum sliding speed is 1 m/s. These figures are maximum limits and, according to the datasheet, may not all be reached at the same time.
The temperature and sliding speed must therefore not be assessed separately from the medium and other operating conditions. The dimensions, axially open installation space and surfaces of the piston rod and groove must also be suitable for the profile.
Current information about approvals and certificates must be checked in the material data sheet applicable to the respective material. This information depends on the specific compound.
The cylinder housing and piston rod or piston must be chamfered to prevent damage during installation. The length and angle of these installation chamfers must correspond to the associated installation-space drawing.
The surface roughness of the piston rod must comply with the specifications of the seal used. The groove flanks for the ADM55 may have a maximum surface roughness of Ra 4 µm. A maximum surface roughness of Ra 2.5 µm applies to the groove base.
The ADM55 is installed in an axially open groove. Sharp edges must be deburred beforehand. Seamless chamfers and radii must also be provided so that the TPU profile is not damaged during installation.
Carefully clean the installation space before inserting the wiper. Dust, dirt, metal chips and other contaminants must be completely removed. The metal angle ring must be positioned correctly in the intended installation space.
The ADM55 must be stored at a temperature below 25 °C. During storage, the wiper must not be exposed to direct heat sources or direct sunlight. Condensation in the storage room must also be prevented.
The product must also be protected against ozone and ionising radiation. The storage recommendations in the datasheet are based on the revision of ISO 2230 dated 16 September 1992.
When selecting an ADM55, first check the required dimensions and the geometry of the axially open installation space. Then assess whether TPU is suitable for the medium and whether the temperature range of -30 to +100 °C and maximum sliding speed of 1 m/s match the operating conditions.
Also consider the contamination present, protruding wiper lip, slightly rounded sealing edge, metal angle ring and recommended pressure relief hole for returning residual oil. The installation chamfers and surface roughness of the groove flanks, groove base and piston rod must also be checked. If an approval or certification is required, it must be established separately for the selected compound.
