The K70 is a double-acting seal for sealing pistons in hydraulic systems. The profile is designed for pressure loads from both sides and can be used in mobile and stationary hydraulics.
The piston seal consists of an asymmetrical TPU profile and an NBR O-ring. This O-ring provides both a sealing function and the preload for the base element.
The base element of the K70 is made from TPU. An NBR O-ring is positioned within this base element. The profile has a tight fit on the inside diameter and features nubs on the end faces.
The K70 also has a second sealing edge. This sealing edge supports the sealing performance of the groove ring under both static and dynamic loads.
The K70 is a double-acting piston seal and can therefore be subjected to pressure from both sides. This function makes the profile suitable for hydraulic applications in which the pressure direction can alternate during operation.
The O-ring provides the preload for the TPU base element. The combination of the preloaded base element and second sealing edge supports good static and dynamic sealing performance.
Nubs are located on the end faces of the K70. According to the data sheet, these nubs enable rapid activation of the seal and rapid pressure build-up.
The nubs are therefore a functional part of the profile. These elements must remain undamaged during installation so that the construction can function as designed.
The K70 hydraulic piston seal is intended for mobile and stationary hydraulics and for medium-duty applications. The profile can also be used as an alternative to the KPOR30 and KPOR130.
The stated advantages include excellent sealing performance at low pressure, good static and dynamic sealing, low friction and high wear resistance. The profile also provides rapid pressure build-up and high extrusion reliability.
The data sheet describes the K70 as a proprietary design with a broad range of applications across different industries and requirements. Quality, durability, safety and favourable total cost of ownership are also listed as product characteristics.
The base element of the K70 is made from TPU. The O-ring that functions as the sealing and preloading element is made from NBR.
During selection, both materials must be assessed in combination with the medium, temperature, pressure, sliding speed and conditions within the installation space.
The K70 is suitable for hydraulic oils according to DIN 51524 part 1-3 and for lubricating oils. The piston seal can also be used with lubricating greases based on mineral oils.
The specified media also include the flame-retardant hydraulic fluids HFA, HFB and HFC according to VCMA 24317. When selecting the seal, verify that the medium is suitable for both the TPU base element and the NBR O-ring.
The K70 hydraulic piston seal has a temperature range of -30 to +100 °C. Its maximum sliding speed is 0,5 m/s and the maximum permitted pressure is 25 MPa.
These application limits are maximum values and may not all be reached at the same time. The suitability of the seal must therefore be assessed using the complete combination of temperature, pressure, sliding speed, medium and installation conditions.
For current information about approvals and certificates, consult the material data sheet valid for the respective material. This information depends on the specific compound and cannot be listed exhaustively in the product data sheet.
The cylinder housing and piston must be chamfered to prevent damage to the seal. The length and angle of these installation chamfers must correspond to the installation-space drawing.
The surface roughness of the groove flanks must be Ra ≤ 3 µm. The groove base must have a surface roughness of Ra ≤ 1,8 µm. A surface roughness of Ra ≤ 0,3 µm applies to the mating surface.
The K70 must be installed in a closed, cut groove. Deburr sharp edges and provide them with seamless chamfers and radii. Carefully clean the installation space before assembly and remove dust, dirt, metal chips and other contaminants.
Do not pull the seal over sharp edges, threaded ends or cavities such as feather key grooves during installation. Use a mounting sleeve if necessary to protect the profile during assembly.
Heating the seal in oil to 80 °C makes the sealing material more elastic and simplifies installation. Grease the piston seal before fitting the cylinder.
Do not roll the O-ring over the mounting surfaces or twist it when snapping it into the groove. The O-ring must remain correctly positioned to function as a sealing and preloading element.
The K70 must be stored at a temperature below 25 °C. Avoid direct heat sources, direct sunlight and condensation in the storage room. Do not expose the seal to ozone or ionizing radiation.
The storage recommendations are based on the revision of ISO 2230 dated 16.09.1992. Observe all specified environmental conditions during storage.
When selecting a K70 hydraulic piston seal, first check the required dimensions, available installation space and double-acting pressure load. Also verify that the closed groove is suitable for installing the TPU base element and NBR O-ring.
Then assess the temperature range of -30 to +100 °C, maximum sliding speed of 0,5 m/s and maximum pressure of 25 MPa. These values may not all be reached at the same time. Check the medium, surface requirements, installation conditions and any compound-dependent approvals as well.
